MuseumLog Community Guidelines

Last updated: August 17, 2026

MuseumLog has one place where what you write is visible to other people: community reviews and replies on artwork pages (also surfaced in Discover). Your private notes, your logs, any review you keep private, and feedback you send us through the in-app form are never shown to anyone else.

These guidelines say what belongs there. They sit alongside the Terms of Service; where the two overlap, the Terms control.

Write about the art

This is an app for people who look at art and want to say something about it. Be specific, be opinionated, be wrong in interesting ways. A review that says what you actually noticed is worth more than a polite one.

Strong criticism is welcome. “Overrated, badly hung, and the varnish has gone yellow” is a legitimate review. Disliking an artist’s work — loudly — is not a violation of anything.

Difficult subjects are not off-limits

Art is about nudity, violence, religion, race, sexuality, politics, death, war, and colonialism. Serious writing about those subjects is exactly what this app is for, and it will not be removed for being uncomfortable.

A review of Goya’s Disasters of War that describes atrocity, a discussion of how a museum acquired a looted object, a frank note about the eroticism of a painting, an argument about a religious work — all of these belong here.

The line is conduct, not subject matter. We care about how you treat people, not what the artwork depicts.

What is not allowed

Content that:

There is no tolerance for any of this.

What happens when you publish

Most reviews publish immediately. Some are checked first.

You see What it means
Your review is now public. Published.
Your review was saved and is being checked. Held briefly for review. It is saved and it is yours; it is just not visible to others yet.
This review cannot be published in its current form. Not published. Your draft is intact — edit it and try again.

Nothing is ever deleted because of a moderation decision. Content that cannot be published stays in your account, editable.

We aim to act on reports promptly — within 72 hours, and usually much sooner.

Reporting and blocking

Report anything that breaks these guidelines. Reporting hides that item for you straight away and sends it to us. The person you reported is never told who reported them.

Block anyone you would rather not see. Blocking hides all of that person’s content from you — reviews and replies — everywhere in the app. They are not notified.

Reporting someone does not remove their content on its own. A person reviews it.

If we get it wrong

We would rather hear about it than not.

Repeatedly breaking these guidelines can lead to losing access to the community features. That decision is always made by a person, never automatically, and your account, logs, notes and collections are unaffected.
