Legal, Licenses, and Attributions
Last updated: July 22, 2026
MuseumLog is built on open data, open-source software, and museum open-access programs. This page lists the attributions and license notices that apply to content and services used in the App.
Map and place data
- OpenStreetMap. Nearby-venue results may include data from OpenStreetMap, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). © OpenStreetMap contributors. Learn more at openstreetmap.org/copyright.
- Geoapify. Nearby-venue search is powered in part by Geoapify, which itself builds on OpenStreetMap and other open data sources.
- Apple Maps. Some venue results and in-app maps are provided by Apple Maps and are subject to Apple’s terms.
Encyclopedic and museum content
- Wikipedia / Wikimedia. Some artwork and artist descriptions in the App are generated from, and link to, source material from Wikipedia, whose text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license. Images sourced from Wikimedia Commons carry their own individual licenses, indicated where shown.
- Wikidata. Structured facts (dates, creators, collections) may come from Wikidata, available under Creative Commons CC0.
- Art Institute of Chicago. Some artwork reference data and images come from the Art Institute of Chicago’s open-access API. Open-access images from AIC are dedicated to the public domain under CC0.
- Other museum open-data programs. Where the App displays reference data or images from a museum’s open-access program, that content remains subject to the source institution’s license, indicated where shown.
Artwork identifications and descriptions in the App are AI-generated from sources like the above and may contain errors; see the Terms of Service for important disclaimers.
Photographs of artworks
Photos you take remain yours. Note that photographing artworks may be restricted by the exhibiting venue, and some exhibited works are themselves protected by copyright. You are responsible for complying with venue policies and applicable law (see Terms of Service, Section 5).
Open-source software
The App is built with open-source software, including React Native, Expo, and other libraries distributed under permissive licenses (MIT, Apache 2.0, BSD). Copies of these licenses are included with the source distributions of those projects. A full machine-generated listing of bundled packages and their licenses is available on request at museumlog.app@gmail.com.
Trademarks
Apple, the Apple logo, TestFlight, and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc. Google is a trademark of Google LLC. Museum names appearing in the App identify the institutions where artworks are exhibited and do not imply endorsement or affiliation.
